Installing SFIC Interchangeable Cores: Using the Control Key for Rapid Field Swaps

Engineering Overview: Step-by-step procedure for inserting and removing Small Format Interchangeable Cores (SFIC) using the 15-degree control key turn.

Technical & Engineering Specifications

Standard ANSI/BHMA A156.5 Figure-8 SFIC Standard
Procedure SFIC Core Insertion & Extraction Protocol
Swap Duration Under 5 Seconds per Door
Control Rotation Exact 15° Clockwise Turn to Retract Side Lug

The 1-Second Core Swap Procedure

SFIC interchangeable cores allow non-technical staff to rekey facilities instantly:

  1. Insert Control Key: Insert the specialized Control Key into the SFIC figure-8 core.
  2. Rotate 15° Clockwise: Turn the control key exactly 15° clockwise to retract the internal side retaining lug.
  3. Extract / Insert: Pull the old core out smoothly; slide the new pre-pinned core in, rotate 15° counter-clockwise, and withdraw the key.

Frequently Asked Engineering & Selection Questions

Q1: How do you remove an SFIC lock core?

Insert the control key, turn it 15 degrees clockwise to pull in the side retaining lug, and slide the core straight out.
